Today, with over 1350 employees and 7 production facilities, Kardemir Steel, which produces up to the final product with green energy, came together with its visitors and industry professionals at the MetalExpo Fair. The fair, held in Istanbul from September 24-27, 2025, with the theme "Green Generations," hosted more than 350 participating companies and approximately 30,000 industry professionals, while Kardemir Steel attracted great interest at the fair. The company strengthened its existing business connections through the meetings it held and also held important meetings for new collaborations.

"Those who invest in green production will stand out in competition"

Özlem Bakırel, Member of the Board of Directors of Kardemir Steel, stated that the fair was very productive for them and drew attention to the importance of this year's theme. Bakırel emphasized that the European Union's carbon regulations and global sustainability expectations are forcing the iron-steel industry to turn to green production technologies, and that companies investing in electric arc furnaces and hydrogen-based production methods will gain a competitive advantage in the coming period.

Stating that Kardemir Steel will gain a stronger position in global competition with its green transformation investments, Özlem Bakırel noted that they have a total renewable energy production capacity of 24.7 MW with the Carbon Production Facility, Air Separation Facility, as well as a 19.7 MW WPP, 4 MW SPP, and a 1 MW capacity ORC system. Bakırel also stated that in the coming period, there are SPP, WPP, and waste heat investments with a total power reaching 57.9 MW. Emphasizing that they aim to achieve a reduction of 48,254 tons of CO₂ emissions annually as a result of all these investments, Bakırel expressed that the company aims to meet its energy needs from renewable sources, achieve sustainability goals, and be independent in energy.

Aiming for a 10% increase in turnover and a 25% increase in exports with the new profile rolling mill

Recalling that they recently started an investment in a profile rolling mill in İzmir Aliağa Bozköy with a $30 million investment, Bakırel said, "The increasing use of steel structures worldwide increases the need for large profiles. We are expanding our product range to meet the increasing demand for structural profiles. Therefore, as Kardemir Steel, in addition to the production of large profile lines 200 mm UPN, IPN, and IPE, we plan to produce product groups over 200 mm by the end of 2025. In the new facilities, we will also produce special profiles for solar power plants and special profiles for the mining ship industry. With our investment, which will be commissioned in the second quarter of 2026, we aim to increase our production capacity while reducing production and maintenance costs. We foresee that with the commissioning of new investments, our total turnover will increase by approximately 10% and our exports by 25%. We expect the contribution of new products, which will be a higher segment product, to reach 25% with profit increase," he said.
